Ultra low power reference design for mobile applications
With the Oryx board, Arrow Electronics and Sharp offer you an ultra low power reference design for mobile applications. At only 42 mW in full operation, the power consumption of this board is extremely low.
The board is suitable for a variety of mobile applications such as test and measurement instruments in medicine and industry, sport and fitness computers, mobile POS input terminals, toys and remote controls and many more. One demand is paramount in this respect: The period of operation between battery replacements must be as long as possible. With the Oryx board, Arrow Electronics has developed an ultra low power reference design incorporating all the functionalities required in power saving mobile apparatus, drawing only 14 mA even when in full operation.
The Oryx board is based on low power components by Sharp, NXP, Analog Devices and Linear Technology. Contrary to many other designs, the display is not the main consumer of power. The Sharp memory LCD technology enables the 1.35 inch display (type LS013B4DN04) to run on only 4 µA – significantly contributing towards reducing the total power consumption of the Oryx board to such low levels.
