TI’s new ADS1x91 and ADS1x92 continue to revolutionize medical diagnostic as well as sports and fitness medicine by enabling designers to make compact and portable equipment that is comfortable to wear and has long battery life. Over 94% lower power consumption and 86% smaller printed circuit boards can be achieved with TI’s new one- and two-channel analog front ends as compared to discrete implementations.

Texas Instruments is fully committed to providing our customers with best-in-class, fully-integrated analog front ends (AFE) and data converter solutions for biopotential measurement applications (ECG, EEG, EMG, etc.).

Prior to TI’s release of the ADS129x family of AFEs, biopotential measurement systems typically required many discrete components and a large amount of printed circuit board (PCB) area. For example, a typical 8-channel ECG system required more than 45 discrete functional blocks. An equivalent system using the ADS1298 is 95% smaller, has 95% lower power consumption and uses 95% fewer parts. A two-channel Holter based on the ADS1292 takes up 92% less PCB space, consumes 94% less power, uses 92% fewer components than an equivalent discrete implementation.

TI’s ADS129x family covers a wide range of biopotential measurement applications and enables medical equipment manufacturers to design complete lines of products using the same platform which enables a reduction in overall design cost and decreases time to market.

Features:

  • All parts in the ADS129x family have fully integrated low noise programmable gain amplifiers (PGA), test signals, right leg drive (RLD) amplifiers, oscillator, voltage reference and lead-off detection function. This level of integration provides significant savings; for example a heart rate monitor based on the ADS1291 takes up 52% less PCB space, consumes 89% less power and requires 75% fewer components compared to a discrete implementation.
  • The ADS1291 and ADS1292 feature input-referred noise below 8μVpp. This enables end equipment that meets or exceeds IEC and AAMI performance requirements.
