[Watch the XMEGA B Introduction]

In sleep mode, XMEGA B devices run its real time counter, a 32.768 kHz crystal oscillator and drive an LCD with up to 160 segments with total power consumption of only 3µA. In addition:

  • ASCII character mapping reduces code size and the time needed to update your LCD. It also simplifies source code and reduces the time spent in active mode by updating the LCD 30 times faster than traditional solutions. The result is more time in power saving sleep mode, and much shorter active cycles, where these applications draw the majority of their power today.
  • Programmable segment blinking allows LCD segments to blink without CPU usage and works in deep sleep mode and reduces interrupt and wake-up frequency up to 99%. This makes AVR XMEGA devices ideal for clocks with second count indication, alarms or anything where you want some type of dynamic indicator.
  • SWAP mode simplifies hardware design. To avoid more complex and expensive external signal rerouting, the LCD segment lines can be internally rerouted to different pins.

With all this, XMEGA B will increase battery life time, decrease code size and reduce design time.

XMEGA B devices also include full speed USB device with operation from internal oscillator, dual 12-bit ADC with programmable gain stage, QTouch capacitive touch sensing, and SPI, I2C and USART connectivity. Event system and DMA offload interrupts and data transfer tasks from the CPU.

XMEGA B is part of Atmel’s AVR XMEGA microcontroller family, developed for applications that need real-time performance and high integration combined with ultra low power consumption.

[XMEGA Product Line overview]

Atmel picoPower® technology enables AVR XMEGA devices to deliver true 1.6 Volt operation, which means all functions—including the ADC and DAC, Flash and EEPROM memory programming operate down to 1.6V. This allows safe operation directly from a 1.8V ±10% power supply. It also enables deeper battery discharge to increase battery life.
